Inventory and storage: use supplies before another trip
Before searching for more food or water, check the backpack and storage you already use. You can consume an item directly from any inventory where it appears. Use Sort to organize that inventory, and Store All or Take All when you actually need a bulk transfer between backpack and storage.

Use the rule for your next decision
Check stored food and water, then consume where it is
Open an inventory you use and look for food or water. If the needed supply is present, consume it there and check the corresponding survival meter. The official inventory update explicitly allows consumption from any inventory containing the item; moving it into the backpack first is unnecessary.
Separate organizing, moving and using items
Choose the control that matches the job; a transfer is not required simply to consume a stored item. The September update also increased backpack capacity by 50% at each upgrade level compared with the previous balance.

The Resource Uplink lets building and crafting use resources from both the backpack and storage crates. The official update moved it into the first region and says it can be crafted early. This page does not establish the full craft, install or equip sequence, so it is not an Uplink installation tutorial.
What success looks like
You have used an already available supply without an unnecessary transfer, or moved the intended items and checked the destination inventory.

If no inventory has the supply, use the regional food/water source guide. Storage availability, production availability and drone delivery are separate checks. No unverified key binding or interaction range is promised.
